| Sailing under the banner of its appropriate tag line "180º
From Ordinary," Windstar was created in the mid-1980's with the vision
to offer an alternative to the typical cruise or resort vacation. The Windstar
passenger sees the world from a romantic sailing ship with luxurious accommodations,
a casual yet elegant atmosphere, and exquisite service and cuisine. |

| Windstar's ships are officially motor-sail-yachts (msy), but the designation
belies the vessels unique rigging. Unfurling in two minutes at the push
of a button, billowing white sails reach to the sky. All functions are
operated from the bridge by computer micro-chips and navigational devices.
The unusual "open-bridge" operation allows guests to drop by and acquaint
themselves with the veteran captains and officers who demonstrate the ship's
intriguing capabilities to modern day explorers.
The 148-passenger Wind Star was joined by sister ships the msy Wind
Song in 1987, and msy Wind Spirit in 1988. A new era in luxury cruising
was now being pioneered by Windstar Cruises. Nearly a decade later in 1998,
the 308-passenger msy Wind Surf was acquired by Windstar. Sailing originally
as Club Med I, the Wind Surf was built in 1990 in the same shipyard to
strikingly similar specifications as her sister ships, making her a perfect
match for the four fleet family. |
WINDSTAR CRUISES DESTINATIONS
Caribbean |
How many shades of blue are there? The answer lies throughout
Windstar’s Caribbean. Sail through stunning turquoise waters: clear and
shimmering and deep. Discover the world underneath it, teeming with green-blue
angelfish, brilliant blue chromis, violet coral and smoky blue barracuda.
Up above, postcard-blue skies are lit up by the occasional puffy, white
cloud. Among the islands’ bright green parrots and flaming bougainvillea,
you’ll find exotic blue lotus flowers in Barbados. Blue-headed hummingbirds
in Dominica. Pastel blue homes along the streets of St. Martin. There are
sparkling blue sapphires in the shops of St. Thomas. And soft, blue-gray
cottage windows opening onto the beaches of St. Bart’s. There is the post-sunset
blue of the evening – time for a cocktail out on the deck. And the shade
of blue that comes over you when you realize it’s time to leave this tropical
paradise. How many shades of blue are there? You’re in the Caribbean. Start
counting. |
The Americas |
Divers, snorkelers, sun-worshippers, nature enthusiasts:
your paradise awaits. Everything under the sun is here for your pleasure
and delight. If diving among exotic fish such as sand tigers and queen
triggerfish is your cup of tea, you’ll love the West Indian allure of the
Bahamas. The culturally curious will appreciate a visit to the fabled Mayan
ruins in Belize, or experiencing the manmade wonders of the Panama Canal.
And if howling monkeys, chattering macaws and lazy three-toed sloth are
your passion, a virtual Noah’s Ark of wildlife welcomes you to the sapphire
waters of exotic Costa Rica. Here verdant rain forests hide every color
of wild orchid, butterfly and bird. Coral-filled reefs seduce with their
astonishing shapes and colors. As the sun and the wind meet together on
the sails of your ship, you’ll smile as you realize you’ve got a photo
album’s worth of memories. And it’s only Day One. |
Europe |
It has been said that there is a third dimension to traveling:
the longing for what is beyond. What lies behind the ancient walled city
of Medina? What new surprise waits around the corner in Barcelona? What
secrets lie within the fabled ruins of Pompeii? When you experience Europe
with Windstar, the answers are revealed with each new moment. Slip into
smaller ports such as Portofino and St. Florent to discover hidden wonders
that are off-limits to other travelers. Watch a Corsican fisherman unload
the fresh catch of the day. See a lace maker at work in medieval Dubrovnik.
Soak up the sun on some of Europe’s most exclusive beaches, including Ibiza,
St. Tropez, Sardinia and Mykonos. In Europe, what lies beyond is as vast
and varied as your individual interests. Grab a cup of coffee, find your
favorite spot on deck and wait, just wait, to see what unfurls. |
Greek Isles
Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, & Rhodes Greece, Bodrum, Kusadasi
& Istanbul Turkey |
Athens, nothing compares to the view from above the city,
looking out towards the blue Aegean, stands the Acropolis, and here lie
the ruins of a culture 2,500 years old: the Propylaea; the Temple of Athena
Nike; the Erechtheum temple, and, most famous of all, the Parthenon. Meanwhile,
modern Athens buzzes busily below, a city of chic restaurants, lively bazaars,
sophisticated banking, historical museums, and the inimitable sights and
smells of the Plaka district. Sailing into Bodrum is an experience like
no other. White-washed and flower-bedecked Bodrum is one of the most charming
cities and sophisticated resorts on the Aegean coast. Beautiful, Turkish-made
wooden boats called gulets line the waterfront and can be hired for the
day. |
Trans-Atlantic
St. Thomas / Barbados, Lisbon |
What would you do if you had more time? Here’s a delicious
way to find out. While sailing at sea, feel the wind in your hair, meet
someone new, get to know the ship and be endlessly pampered. Relax in your
comfortable stateroom (recently redecorated), where you can watch a DVD
on your new flat-screen LCD television. Find a quiet space to work on your
memoirs, your favorite beverage at hand. Take a refreshing dip in the pool.
Or wander up to the Bridge and ask the Captain about these waters you’re
crossing. Spend some time working out with all of the new equipment in
the Fitness Room - then treat yourself to dinner in The Restaurant. You’ve
got all the time in the world to do exactly as you please. Day after beautiful
day.
